Workers’ Comp Guide
If you are an employee of a company, your employer likely has insurance that’s intended to cover any injuries or conditions which result from your job. Workers’ Compensation Insurance operates similarly to your regular health insurance, but does have a few unique processes.
If you believe your injury or condition arose while at work, you’ll want to notify your manager who can assist you in opening up a claim. He or she will likely have you fill out a form called DWC-1 (Employer’s First Report of Injury). Each employer typically works with a designated doctor’s office that’s geared toward handling workers’ comp claims. Even if you need Physical Therapy or Chiropractic care, they’ll have you start your care with this designated doctor’s office to oversee and manage the case. In Nevada County, most of the workers’ comp referrals our clinic receives for therapy come from YubaDocs Urgent Care facility in Grass Valley, CA and Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, CA. In Placer County, we typically see worker’s comp referrals come from MedCare Urgent Care Facility. That means, if you work in Nevada County or Placer County, you’ll likely go to one of those facilities to receive a referral for therapy.
Referrals to Physical Therapy and Chiropractic care: At your initial doctor’s appointment, your provider will determine whether or not you may benefit from therapy. In the absence of a broken bone or full ruptured tear, therapy is often times a great place to start with simple and complex musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. To ensure no delay in care, you can request your referral specifically be sent to Radius Physical + Sports Rehab via fax to our office at (530) 200-8865. We will need to see the referral before treating you to ensure that treatment is authorized by the insurance company.
